Present:
Ian Wilson, Neil Dandy, Mike Rundle.
Apologies from Nina Basset, David Cooling, Steve Cale and Nick Parsons
- Treasurers Report – £3,269.08 in the group’s Barclays account as at 10.10.2022
- Scrape: Steve has spoken to Tom Cook and has permission to carry out digger work on the scrape on Friday the 13th October. It will cost £200 for the day. The object is to clear the accumulated silt
- Events: the annual quiz is to be on Wednesday 16th November at the Blue Boar. It is intended that the AGM be held at the same event. Mike will give David the information he needs to comply with the RWG constitution (notice to members) and Mike will give a short Chairman’s report at the AGM. Helen and Keith Jones have agreed to prepare the quiz questions and Ian will be quizmaster. A fee per team of four will be £10 and individuals taking part will be asked for £2.50. Members will be asked to let David know if they are coming so that numbers can be calculated. They should let David know if they would like to have a meal at the Pub that evening/or book direct with the Boar.
- Ancient Trees: Ian is proceeding with the registration of veteran trees. Members are encouraged to get in touch with him if they have a particular tree in mind. It is important to appreciate that trees need not necessarily be of a great age for registration.
- Goose Day: this is to take place on Sunday 8th January, starting at 1.30 pm at Lady’s Drive which should allow some time for birding and for walking out to where we need to stand. The Plan A is to go to Holkham but geese are unpredictable so we might need to meet somewhere else in NW Norfolk. Nick will scout out beforehand. We can let folk know where to meet the day before or earlier if the geese settle into a pattern. At that time of year birds normally go into roost at about 4 pm. Maybe call it a “wild goose chase”.
- Spring bulb and tree planting: As part of our Pollinator pathways project we have acquired several thousand spring bulbs which we will be planting in Ryburgh on Sunday, October 16th – 11 am to 1 pm. The bulbs include crocus grape hyacinth and snowdrop which are all good for hungry insects out and about in early spring and should give a colourful show to cheer us all up too. They will be available from a stand outside the village shop. Everyone can take some to plant in the garden, planter or pot by the door. We hope our RWG members can spread the word and encourage their friends and neighbours to spare a little time and join us on the day.
- Hedgehogs: Neil has produced a paper for distribution to members with the next newsletter. Mike/Neil will ask Tim to post it on the RWG website.
- Next meeting: Thursday November 3rd at the Blue Boar at 7.30pm
