Would you like to join the RWG Pollinator Pathways project?
The project was launched at the Ryburgh Spring Show on 30/4/22 with the aims of:
- Helping pollinating insects and other wildlife in Ryburgh by encouraging residents to grow more insect-friendly flowering plants in their gardens and other suitable spaces throughout the village.
- Bringing nature closer to people and giving opportunities for everyone to play their part in helping to create richer habitats for insects and other wildlife in Ryburgh.
- Promoting better understanding of how pollinating insects are vital for ecological diversity and for production of many of our food crops.
- Exploring ways of expressing the beauty and diversity of insects and flowers through various forms of art and handicrafts, possibly including the creation of a permanent display in the Memorial Hall and other community activities.
Our current objectives are to:
- Raise awareness of the project at village events e.g. monthly community cafes, and via the RWG website, which can be a useful source of information, photos and updates.
- Provide information on pollinator-friendly plants and habitats, and signpost examples of pollinator-friendly gardens/sites/road verges throughout the village.
- Engage with residents/landowners and managers/All Saints School to promote more pollinator-friendly gardens, village spaces, road and path verges, and school grounds.
- Show a significant increase in pollinator-friendly sites in Ryburgh after the first year.
- Create a piece of lasting artwork that expresses the value and beauty of pollinators and their food plants.
We are grateful for the support of Norfolk Wildlife Trust – Gemma Walker, NWT Senior Communities Officer was involved on the stand at the project launch. Ryburgh Village Shows Group supported us from the outset, and we are hoping to develop this project by working with Ryburgh Stitch Group, Ryburgh Memorial Hall and Playing Field Committee, and All Saints School, Stibbard.
You can get involved and help in lots of different ways
- By making your garden more pollinator-friendly – and putting it on the map!
- By telling your neighbours – lots of pollinator-friendly gardens together create a much more valuable habitat for pollinators, bringing other wildlife to your doorstep too.
- By posting your photos and messages on the members forum pages.
- If you are a RWG member who doesn’t live in Ryburgh why not start a pollinator
pathway in your village?
