Minutes of a committee meeting of the Ryburgh Wildlife Group held at Stone House on May 28th 2024.
Present: Mike Rundle (Chair), David Cooling, Nick Parsons, Gill Waldron
Apologies: Neil Dandy, Barley and Ian Wilson.
- Minutes of the last meeting – approved
- Ryburgh Wildlife Watch – June 15th-20th.
- Committee Members available Mike, Neil, hopefully Ian and Barley for the duration – Nick on 19th/20th.
- Photo Competition David has circulated (email May 25th) draft rules, amended to separate camera from phone photograph entries. Simple rules, under 16s and over 16s, photo taken within parish boundaries from June 1st onwards, upload to RWG website with date, place, species if known. Use the RWG email address. Judged on evening of 20th (who, to be confirmed, ? ask Nick Acheson) Prizes – Nick A’s book (Mike) for >16, online bird guide <16, (tbc).
- Publicity Barley has designed a poster. Gill to copy, laminate and put up around the village, also Colkirk and Stibbard, and Kettlestone. David to ask Tim to put the poster on website. David will put it on RWG facebook page, also Friends of Ryburgh . Reminders about events to be posted frequently especially when the event starts –(who can do this after David unavailable?). It was decided NOT to post a flyer round every house (effort vs result). Local press? ( David)
- Programme Mike to contact Barley to see up to date situation with her comprehensive plan. Hide to be opened daily, 10-7, (reminder no dogs), Mike will attend 10-11 am Saturday, Monday and Wednesday. Ian knows River Watch plans. Who to lead Ryburgh Common walk? (Ian? Neil?)
- Thursday Hall is booked, from 4pm Mike knows the key safe and lockup padlock code, setup (chairs etc) to be organised. Mike has map for findings, he will sort refreshments. David to organise posts of publicity for Nick A ‘s talk. Donation (£50) to be given to Nick A for a charity of his choice.
- Joint NWT/RWG meeting: Ella has offered dates for a joint meeting, Gill will confirm June 4th at Stone House, 9.30. To discuss, Nature Watch, (would our records, if unverified, be of value) pond reclamation progress, biodiversity planning, and NWT role as a hub to connect groups. What is the update on Norfolk mapping?
- Pond Reclamation Mike reported discussions with Fergus about the pond abutting the railway line in the first field along Mill road, evidence of its existence since mid 18th Century, purpose not yet known.
- Biodiversity Parish Council has appointed a biodiversity ‘Tsar’ not yet known who. Barbara Wyvill has proposed one for Kettlestone (Mike circulated by email May 26th).
